Provisional stop for new wholesale electricity consumers in North Brabant and Limburg
Source: Tennet and MRE
In Limburg and North Brabant, there will be a temporary halt for new companies and institutions that want a connection to the electricity grid, both for purchase and generation of electricity. There will also be no more room for existing companies that want a heavier connection.

Proclamation of decline in the MRE region
The electricity grid is being used more and more intensively. Not only because of the increasing feed-in of sustainably generated electricity from energy from solar and wind farms, for example, but also because of the rapidly increasing demand for electricity. In addition to the transmission scarcity faced by some large solar and wind projects, there is now also demand scarcity: a shortage of space for large-scale consumers of electricity.
As of April 4, 2022, the MRE already has two service areas in which Enexis has made an announcement of impending off-take scarcity (Eindhoven-West and Hapert). TenneT's proclamation goes much further. And for three reasons, (1) it concerns a much larger area (2) it concerns both off-take and feed-in and (3) there is no announcement, but a measure that takes effect immediately.
Consequences of this proclamation
The declaration of transmission scarcity by TenneT means that, as of June 9, both TenneT and Enexis will no longer issue tenders throughout Brabant and Limburg for connections (or expansion of connections) that have a size of more than 3 x 80A (the large consumption connections). This means that such connections (new or expansion of existing ones) are no longer available. As of this moment, network operators are working with an interest list and interested parties can indicate that they want a (expansion of) a large consumption connection.
TenneT and Enexis are starting research into the feasibility of "congestion management. They expect to need at least 6 months for this. Congestion management aims to use the available capacity on the electricity grid as efficiently as possible. For example, by making agreements with large consumers about the times when they purchase electricity. Should this, or the surrender of connections, create space, the grid operator will consider whether interested parties, as known on the interest list, can be connected. This will be distributed in a smaller geographical area. So there may start to be regional differences here. Nothing can be said about this at this time.
No impact on residential connections
It should be emphasized that the transmission shortage does not affect connections smaller than 3 x 80A. These connections include residential connections. Since the forecasts have taken this into account, they can be connected for the time being. The housing task itself is therefore not at issue. However, facilities in the district (larger stores), for which no connection has yet been arranged, cannot be connected to the electricity network.
