Everyone should be able to easily find, use and view the website of the municipality of Gemert-Bakel. Therefore, we want to meet the accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1 level AA) and the Temporary Decree on Digital Accessibility to Government external link icon as well as possible.

Measures to increase accessibility

The website can be used with any PC, tablet or smartphone, including those with adapted devices.

For those without these devices, there is also a read-aloud and translation function on the website. To use it, you do not need to download anything. To have selected text read aloud, select text and click the read aloud button from the pop-up menu that appears (► Read aloud). With the webReader, you can also:

  • view content as text without formatting, with the font, font size and colors you want.
  • download an audio file with the content from the web page so you can listen offline as well.
  • Translate selected text into another language and have it read aloud in that language.
  • Set the reading speed and colors for highlighting.
  • Look up the meaning of a selected word.

This makes our website accessible to more people, including people who have trouble reading, learning or seeing, people learning a new language, the elderly and anyone who prefers to listen rather than read.

We also purchased a tool to continuously test and improve our websites. Also in the area of accessibility.

In 2022, the focus is on accessible texts, and by early 2020, all texts on this website will be written so that as many people as possible understand what it says (language level B1).

Currently, not all the information we offer is accessible to everyone. For example, our pdf files. We are looking for solutions to this.
