Introduction round

Starting point is A: Jumbo Beekakker (entrance). Attendees briefly introduce themselves to the group. The topics to be discussed were notified in advance by residents. The route was determined on that basis and sent to residents in advance.

Locations

Location B: Auerschootseweg - Beekakker
Question/complaintThe proposal to construct a sidewalk near Auerschootseweg (N604) on the left side towards Beekakker / Jumbo. This will allow pedestrians (with a walker) and parents with a baby carriage to reach the supermarket, among other things, more safely. Possibly this could be realised by converting the current parking lane into a bike path and converting the existing bike path into a sidewalk. It is unclear for whom exactly the parking lane has been laid out and at Jumbo and local residents themselves there is sufficient parking space.
On-site responseBuilding a sidewalk is a good idea. However, this is not possible in the short term. For that, there is still too much car traffic on this road now and the speed on the road is still too high to move cyclists to the roadway. Policies are being developed that lay a foundation for downgrading such roads. A budget has also been requested in the 2024 budget to research ways to reduce the amount of through (truck) car traffic. Once both issues are completed, more will be known about what happens to this road.
SolutionThe outcome of the new traffic policy and the study of options for keeping through traffic out should be awaited.
Question/complaintThe lock near the Farmers' Union was to be removed. This has not happened yet? What will be done about the parking problem around the Farmers Union and the school?
On-site responseThe lock is part of the road design. The adjustments to the road cannot be made until it is known how we will deal with the road. This must be laid down in policy to be adopted by the City Council next year. Once this is established, it can also be decided what will happen to the lock. The same applies to a solution for parking.
SolutionThe outcome of the new traffic policy should be awaited.
Question/complaintWould like a crossing point to the Jumbo from the pathway in the extension of Burgemeester Diepstratenlaan. From the neighborhood this is the shortest way to the Jumbo. However, crossing Auerschootseweg to the Jumbo's parking lot (and back) is difficult. This is because there is a lot of traffic coming from 3 sides and it is a 50km road. Furthermore, you are not very visible behind the trees on the west side of the road. Option would be to make this a 30km road all the way to Oldert. Also considering other difficult points on Auerschootseweg.
On-site responseJust putting some lines on the road creates the idea of safety for the bicyclist/walker but does not provide it until the speed and volume of car traffic there is also reduced. The crossing takes place from behind a row of trees and a limited view of crossing traffic.
The best crossing should provide a siding between traffic flows. However, there is no space for this. In order to modify the road, the amount of traffic and the speed driven there would have to be significantly reduced. The adjustments to the road cannot be made until it is known how we will deal with the road. That has to be laid down in policy that will be adopted by the council next year. Once it is established, it can also be decided what will happen with a crossing from this path.
SolutionThe outcome of the new traffic policy and the study of options for keeping through traffic out should be awaited.

Location C: Burgemeester Diepstratenlaan
Question/complaintThe crossing after the bicycle path, through the woods coming from Burgemeester Diepstratenlaan in the direction of Beekakker, could be made safer by constructing a refuge in the middle of the existing road embankment. This would be wide enough to wait there with a bicycle / baby carriage / walker. This way one can cross in two times. Traffic comes here from three sides, cars, bicycles and mopeds from two sides. Possibly the maximum allowed speed here could also be changed to 30 km/h.
On-site responseAgain, the road in which the crossing should be located cannot be made suitable now. Again, in order to adapt the road, the amount of traffic and the speed driven on it must be significantly reduced. The adjustments to the road cannot be made until it is known how we will deal with the road. That has to be laid down in policy that will be adopted by the council next year. Once it is established, it can also be decided what will happen to a crossing from this path.
SolutionThe outcome of the new traffic policy and the study of options for keeping through traffic out should be awaited.
Question/complaintThere is a lot of dog poop on the field and along the path between Auerschootseweg and Burgemeester Diepstratenlaan. Can there be a trash can for dog poop bags here.
On-site responseIt is being figured out whether an additional trash can can can be placed here or an unused one moved to this location.
SolutionIt is being looked into whether an additional trash can can be placed here or an unused one moved to this location.
Solution: At the entrance to the path on the side of the Burgemeester Diepstratenlaan there is already a litter bin. Even dog waste bags can be deposited in that bin. There is therefore no added value in adding a new litter bin. In addition, residents increasingly have a role to play when it comes to combating nuisance (dog waste). Residents are advised to talk to people when they see dog owners leaving dog waste.
Location C: Cornflower Street
Question/complaintWe ourselves live on this road and daily cars drive too fast through this street. It is a reasonably busy road because people use it to go to the center or Deurne. An option would be to make a threshold or round elevation halfway at the t-junction. The road is so straight now that it invites speeding.
On-site responseExcellent proposal. It is being investigated whether it is possible to construct a speed reduction measure there. If at a later date the street is renovated, then the whole street will be looked at so that it is less inviting to speeding.
SolutionConstruction thumbtack.
Question/complaintThe sidewalk is in bad shape, an ambulance also had to come the other day for a fallen elderly person, can something be done about this.
On-site responseThis is passed on to the road manager, who checks what has come out of the inspection and action will be taken where necessary.
SolutionThe situation will be assessed based on the road inspection data, if it appears necessary, minor maintenance will be performed here.
Question/complaintA while back, a plan was put forward for additional benches in the neighborhood. Can the plan be implemented?
On-site responseResidents can contact area administrator Willie van Geel.
Solution-
Location D: Cornflower Street
Question/complaintOn the field on Cornflower Street, we would like to have space for Jeu de Boules, a playground and a place for neighborhood gatherings.
On-site responseNext year there will be a participation round in Bakel. Through the media (also newspaper) will be announced when and how you can participate. There is a budget in the policy plan for refurbishing/adapting the playing locations. Boules courts also fall within this budget.
SolutionWaiting for next year's participation process, then this issue will be taken up further.
Question/complaintThe playground at Duinroosstraat/Bottelroosstraat has been updated with natural playground equipment. These sprout with hefty spines attached.
On-site responseThe Green and Play Support Officer Rodney Kaan is going to find out who should perform this maintenance.
SolutionMaintenance order has been issued to field service colleagues. Maintenance will be performed as soon as possible.
Question/complaintOn Willow Rose Street, the sidewalk is uneven, the water does not drain properly. This is probably due to a damaged sewer.
On-site responseAn appointment will be made with the resident of #8 to review the situation on site. Possibly this is a major project where the entire street will need to be revisited.
SolutionThe gully drain next to house number 1 is clogged. This was examined last week and will be replaced. The situation of the road will be assessed from the road inspection data, if it proves necessary minor maintenance will be carried out here.
Locations: E + G Poppy Street
Question/complaintBetween Nieuwe Uitleg and the intersection Boterbloemstraat / Wilgenroosstraat, the sidewalk is very narrow and bumpy, due in part to the trees present. This poses a danger to people walking over there. You can easily trip there. As a result, many people walk on the road there, which also poses a danger.
On-site responseThe tile pavement there behind the trees, 2 ½ tile, is not wide enough to still be a full-fledged sidewalk. Because of the size of the trees and their root growth, the path will also be repaired to the roadway. Until the situation changes, people will have to cross the road. The reconstruction of this street will not happen until the sewer is also in need of replacement Information about this will be collected from the road manager and the sewer manager.
SolutionRegarding sewer: the existing sewer was last inspected in 2021. No special defects were found from this inspection. The existing sewer is expected to last for at least another 20 to 30 years. An extension was constructed in 2020 for the HWA from the Nieuwe Uitleg street. A yet-to-be-constructed HWA system would be connected to this. If from roads the road opens, sewer will go with it.
Concerning the road: the problem in the Wilgenroosstraat is known to us. Tree roots cause nuisance in several streets within the municipality. Wilgenroosstraat is therefore on our list for structural measures. Unfortunately, the road manager cannot say anything about a (final) planning at this moment, but as soon as the work is underway, the residents will be informed.
Question/complaintThe trees present produce a lot of leaves (and green debris). This makes for a dirty and slippery road surface in the fall. Perhaps the trees could be removed? Perhaps, since this is a sensitive issue, place new trees that take up less space? (Also considering the space they take up on the sidewalk).
On-site responseThe tile pavement there behind the trees, 2 ½ tile, is not wide enough to still be a full-fledged sidewalk. Because of the size of the trees and their root growth, the path will also be repaired to the roadway. Until the situation changes, people will have to cross the road. Question/complaintKPN cabinet at the corner of New Explanation / Poppy Street looks pretty tawdry. Could this one be cleaned?
On-site responseA notification is made from the municipality that the closet needs to be cleaned. The road authority, also cable and pipe operator can figure out whose closet this is.
SolutionKPN manages the cabinet; residents can report to KPN themselves through damage and incident hotline via phone number 0800-0150.

Additional questions and/or comments by several residents during the Look in the Neighborhood

How does the municipality handle requests for charging stations for people who do not have their own driveway? Can solar panel owners then have a charging station placed in front of their house at the roadway in the public space?

For the time being, no private charging stations will be placed in public spaces because this would result in a private person "reserving" a piece of public space that others should also be able to use to meet the parking needs of a street. Only for persons with physical disabilities will
parking space in the public space. Charging poles in public space are intended for multiple use, especially by residents who do not have a driveway.' If a resident has their own solar panels, they cannot use this as an argument for being allowed to install a personal charging station in a public space. Purchasing an electric car remains a personal choice.

Solution:

No private charging stations will be placed in public spaces.

At the site on Willow Rose Street there is (a lot of) root growth under the tiles making the footpath impassable. The resident would like to see the trees cut down at the site.

Reconstructions consider the possibility of retaining trees on one side, however at this stage it is not clear how they will be dealt with specifically on this street. The road manager will be asked if, and when, some paving will be done.

Solution:

The problem on Willow Rose Street is well known to us. Tree roots cause nuisance in several streets within the municipality. Wilgenroosstraat is therefore on our list for structural measures. Unfortunately, the road manager cannot say anything about a (definitive) schedule at this time, but as soon as the work is imminent the residents will be informed.
