New archaeology policy

Archaeological research

The municipality of Gemert-Bakel is working on a new archaeology policy starting in early 2024. This means that the policy plan and the archaeological expectations and values map will be renewed. The municipality would like to incorporate as much information into this as possible to make the archaeological expectations and values map as accurate as possible.

Archaeological expectations and values map

The archaeological expectations and values map shows whether archaeological remains are expected and how likely they are. This is translated into zones of high to low expectations. The higher the expectation value, the greater the chance of finding archaeological remains. The archaeological expectation and value map can be used to determine whether archaeological research is required.

Meeting invitation April 2, 2024

On April 2, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. a meeting on archaeology policy will take place in De Eendracht in Gemert. On behalf of alderman Willeke van Zeeland, I invite you to this meeting. On this evening the methodology and the archaeological expectations and values map will be explained and it is possible to ask questions. Read here what is in the invitation.external-link-icon If you would like to attend this meeting, please register via the email address: gemeente@gemert-bakel.nl.

Reporting disruptions

Owners of plots of land that are demonstrably disturbed are asked to report these disturbances. Collecting and processing as yet unknown disturbances of parcels will prevent unnecessary archaeological research in the future. The potential disturbances that can be reported are:

  • Plot with (level-controlled) drainage
  • Plot declared (in the past) in the agricultural census for asparagus cultivation, salsify or tree cultivation with a root ball depth deeper than 40 centimeters.
  • Land that has been raised, leveled or excavated.
  • Parcel where tillage deeper than 40 centimeters has been carried out.

The fact that the soil has been disturbed to a certain depth does not necessarily mean that there are no more archaeological values present. It can, however, demonstrate that there is existing use. The municipality can take this into consideration when evaluating the archaeological research requirement.

How can you file a report?

We ask you to fill out an inventory form.

It is also possible to request the inventory form and an A3-size printout of the disturbance source map from the municipality free of charge. You can do this at the public counter in the town hall during normal opening hours. You can clearly mark the plots of land you wish to provide information about. This is possible on a printout of the disturbance source map. For each plot we would like to ask you to provide the plot number or a clear description of the plot size. (At the meeting on April 2, the draft of the disturbance source map in A3 format can be picked up).

We also ask that you attach evidence of the disturbed soils to the inventory form, demonstrating the disturbance (in area and depth). Please remember to keep a copy of the information you submit yourself. After the April 2 meeting, you still have the opportunity to submit your disturbed soils with evidence until April 15. Possible evidence could include:

  • Drawings/photos of drainage already in place
  • Agricultural counts of current crop or historical crop of asparagus, salsify, pedigrees
  • Research reports or soil surveys
  • Invoices of work **Providence in other forms is also possible**

What exactly are we asking for?

We ask that you check the disturbance source map.

The disturbance source map will be published before the April 2 meeting. If one or more of your plots have unrecorded detectable disturbance, please use the inventory form to report it.

Continued

After the deadline closes, notifications are processed by omgevingsdienst Zuidoost-Brabant and, if necessary, randomly checked by means of soil drilling.
