Do you catch your rainwater on your own property from now on?

You can do that with a green roof! This may qualify you for a contribution.

Why does the municipality want to encourage this?

The increase in heavy precipitation is increasing the risk of streets and basements flooding. We must prevent this as much as possible. For rain showers that are so heavy that the public sewer system cannot cope, we are jointly responsible. The municipality is making public spaces increasingly climate-proof. But very heavy showers cannot be absorbed by the municipality alone because the public space has its limitations.

By buffering rainwater on your green roof or disconnecting it from the sewer system and retaining it in your own garden, we reduce the risk of flooding. The municipality of Gemert-Bakel provides advice and a financial contribution to achieve this with you.

What do we expect when building a green roof?

The municipality of Gemert-Bakel encourages the construction of green roofs. Green roofs give Gemert-Bakel a greener appearance, provide a buffer during rain and ensure a longer life span of a roof.

Green roofs have several benefits:

• They collect rainwater and drain it in a delayed manner. This reduces the burden on the sewer system when it rains hard. This is why we provide subsidies to encourage the construction of green roofs.
• A green roof is covered with plants, which is positive for biodiversity.
• With plants, your roof is extra protected and will last up to two times longer.
• Under a green roof it is not as hot in summer as under a black roof.

Terms

To qualify for this incentive grant, the following conditions apply:

• Work has not yet begun;
• The roof area to be disconnected is within the municipality of Gemert-Bakel;
• The roof area to be disconnected is connected to free-fall sewer;
• You can apply for an incentive grant to construct a green roof on an existing roof of at least 5 m²;
• A minimum of 25 liters of water storage per m² of roof area must be provided;
• The roof plane must be completed by December 31, 2018.

Who is the incentive grant intended for?

All non-governmental organizations such as citizens, civic groups (such as village and neighborhood councils, associations), businesses and housing associations can receive an incentive contribution for disconnecting rainwater from the sewer system. Instead of a connection to the sewerage system, rainwater should then infiltrate into the soil of your plot or there should be a facility that can drain rainwater in a delayed manner. This helps prevent flooding during heavy rainfall because the sewer system does not have to handle as much rainwater at a time.

Gehighlighte text: Note: This regulation applies to properties in the municipality of Gemert-Bakel that were built at least before December 31, 2018 and discharge the rainwater directly or indirectly to the public sewerage system which drains to the sewage treatment plant.

How does the stimulus grant application work?

You can apply for the incentive grant through the application form.

• The municipality reviews the application and decides whether or not to award an incentive grant.
• You carry out the work within 6 months and submit evidence of the execution and a completed application form for incentive payment within 6 weeks of execution. This application form will be sent to you by email.
• Based on the information provided and possibly after verification, the municipality makes a decision on whether or not to disburse the incentive grant.

Available incentive contribution

The contribution is available to both private owners and legal entities.
The amount of the incentive contribution when constructing a green roof from 5 m² to 400 m²:
€ 25.00 per m² of greened roof area.
