To exchange your valid foreign driving license, you must live in Gemert-Bakel and be registered in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Not all foreign driving licenses can be exchanged.

To exchange your valid foreign driving license, you must live in Gemert-Bakel and be registered in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Not all foreign driving licenses can be exchanged. You can read more about this on the website of the Rijksdienst voor Wegverkeer (RDW).
If the driving license is from a country other than Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland or an EU country, a Certificate of Fitness is always required.
If you have a driving license with only punctuation that is not used in the Netherlands (for example, Japanese or Greek), you must bring a translation of the foreign driving license. The translation must have been made by a sworn interpreter, the embassy or consulate.
If you cannot exchange your driver's license, you must take a theory and practical exam at the CBR to obtain a Dutch driver's license.
Bring
- a valid ID
- one good-looking color passport photo that meets all passport photo
- your foreign driving license
- A valid residence permit. This is not required if you are a national of an EU or EFTA country (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland).
Terms
- You are registered as a resident of the municipality
- You apply for the driver's license yourself
- You have the nationality of an EU or EFTA country or a valid residence permit
- There should be no disqualification or invalidation of a driver's license
- A Certificate of Eligibility is registered with the CBR external icon less than 1 year old (if applicable)

You pay the fee directly at the time of application. Please remember that we do not accept €200 in paper money. This is for security reasons.
How long does it take?
You will be notified by the Department of Road Transport (RDW) when you can pick up your driver's license at the municipality.

When you apply, you turn in your foreign driver's license. You may not drive after that until you get your new license!
Pick up within 3 months
After you are notified by RDW that your driver's license is ready at the municipality, you have three months to pick up your license. After that, it is officially invalid and will be destroyed. You must then make a new application.
