Eindhoven - Gemert express bicycle route
Many people commute daily by car between Gemert and Eindhoven. Providing good and safe cycling facilities creates a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative to the car. An express cycle route Gemert-Laarbeek-Nuenen-Eindhoven makes cycling over long distances extra attractive, especially for commuter traffic which helps reduce the pressure on the N615, among others. For the express cycle route between Gemert and Eindhoven (Berenkuil) to be a success, it is necessary that local and provincial authorities first choose the optimal route. We are now investigating this in a so-called route study. After that, municipalities and province will agree on the realization in a management agreement.
Why this express bicycle route?
Good bicycle connections are attractive for use on somewhat longer distances, from 15 to 30 kilometers. The total length of the route between Gemert and Eindhoven is about 22 km.
The express cycle route is also intended to connect the cores between Gemert and Eindhoven (i.e. Beek en Donk, Lieshout, Aarle-Rixtel, Gerwen). We also consider this important, and of course we take into account the connection to the other express bicycle routes, such as the F58, and the Gemert - Helmond route.
Invitation: walk-in meetings on Nov. 25 and 26
The regional Accessibility Agreement includes a fast bicycle route between Gemert and Eindhoven. The municipalities of Gemert-Bakel, Laarbeek, Nuenen, Eindhoven and the province of North Brabant have investigated the measures necessary for an optimal bicycle route. This study has been completed and a preliminary design (so-called preferred route) has emerged. The participating municipalities have yet to make an official decision on this, but we would like to inform all residents concerned about the preliminary design.
Walk-in meetings Nov. 25 and 26
In November we will organize two (same) walk-in meetings, one in Nuenen and one in Lieshout.
Walk-in meeting 1 - Lieshout Village Hall
Date: Monday, Nov. 25
Time: 18:30 - 20:00(19.00 plenary presentation)
Address: Grotenhof 2, 5737 CB Lieshout
Walk-in meeting 2 - Opwetten watermill
Date: Tuesday, November 26
Time: 18:30 - 20:00(19.00 plenary presentation)
Address: Opwettenseweg 203, 5674 AC Nuenen
You can walk in whenever you want to ask questions and engage in conversation with members of the municipal project group and advisors from TAUW (the firm that conducted the study). A plenary presentation will take place at 7 p.m.
Drawings show where the route will be located, what it will look like and where bridges or tunnels are needed. Points of attention and suggestions for further development are also welcome.
The meetings are open to the public and you do not need to register in advance.
What happens next?
The participating municipalities and the province will soon sign a management agreement. This contains agreements on the construction and financing of the express cycle route. After that, the further elaboration and implementation of the express cycle route will be taken up by the individual municipalities.

Planning
Start research on optimal route (route study)
To guarantee a good quality and coherence of the route, municipalities and province want to make agreements about the realization and financing. This requires that they first gain insight into the optimal location of the route, design, other facilities (think bridges, tunnels) and the costs involved. The province has asked the municipality of Nuenen, as the initiator, to guide the choices. To this end, bureau TAUW has launched a study of the optimal location of that route.
Route study
Bureau TAUW is in the process of investigating the optimal route (route study). We expect this study to be completed in the fall of 2023.
Share initial route study results with stakeholders
Once the study of the optimal route is complete, we will share the initial results with the various interest groups and interested parties.
Current phase: completion of research
Collected input from the walk-in meetings will be processed and the study finalized. If necessary, the preliminary opinion will be modified.
Still to do: Signing Administrative Agreement
The route study leads to a recommendation to the cooperating municipalities. The final agreements on the realization of the express cycle route are secured in a management agreement (BOK). This agreement will be signed by the participating municipalities and the province. This is expected to take place at the end of 2023.
Still to do: Elaboration of subprojects.
After the signing of the management agreement, elaboration into subprojects will take place. In this phase, stakeholders are involved in the further elaboration, so that the final product will be better/compatible with the user's wishes and sensitivities are also taken into account.
The project team is looking back on two successful walk-in meetings on September 11 and 18 in Gerwen and Lieshout about the route study for an express bicycle route between Gemert and Eindhoven. We thank all attendees for their participation and input.
About 100 attendees listened to the of the state of affairs and reacted to the draft results of the study. Their valuable contributions will allow us to further design and improve the route study for this express bicycle route. We will carefully study the comments and suggestions given during the meeting and use them to make a well-considered and hopefully supported recommendation.
What do we mean by an express bicycle route and for whom is it intended?
An express bicycle route is a direct, comfortable bicycle connection with few obstacles that ensures you arrive at your destination smoothly. The point is not that you cycle fast on a light-cycle route, but that you can cycle through easily. Whether you ride a regular city bike, e-bike, e-step or cargo bike. More e-bikes are being sold and used for commuting. This makes cycling longer distances more attractive. Cyclists have the right of way as much as possible on an express cycle route and little interference from other traffic. You might also call these routes 'cycle-through routes' or 'I-get-faster-the-bike routes'.
The express cycle route is a joint project of the province of North , municipality of Eindhoven, municipality of Nuenen, municipality of Laarbeek and municipality of Gemert-Bakel.
