Basic register of persons (BRP), deleting or overwriting data

Upon written request by the adoptive parents of a child under 16 years of age or an adopted child 16 years of age or older, pre-adoption records may be deleted. These records may include:

• data on the name;

• data on the mother or father;

• the nationality lost at adoption;

• the municipality of registration and the address in that municipality.

In addition, the municipal administration may respond to a written request from the person concerned when it concerns changes related to a court ruling on gender change. This information may include:

• data about the name

• data on gender

• data on the use of the sex name of the spouse, previous spouse, registered partner or previous registered partner

If you wish to have historical records of an adoption or sex change removed, please submit a written request to the municipality. Remember to include a copy of your valid ID.
