A deed of conversion can convert your registered partnership into a marriage, ending the registered partnership and beginning the marriage from the time the deed of conversion is recorded in the Registry of Marriages. For children born before the conversion, nothing changes in the family relationships.
You cannot apply to the municipality for a dissolution of marriage (divorce) or registered partnership. For this, you engage a lawyer.
If you live in the Netherlands and want to get married in another country, you may need a document stating that you are not yet married and that you and your partner may marry each other according to Dutch law. This document is called a declaration of marital competence. You will only need this declaration if it is specifically requested.
When a person dies, it must be reported to the municipality in which the person died. This also applies if it is a stillborn child. The municipality then prepares a death certificate. After the declaration is made, you will be given permission to bury or cremate the deceased person. The municipality also ensures that the basic registration of persons (BRP) is updated.

From February 4, 2019, as the father or mother of a lifeless child, you can have your child registered in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). After registration, your child will be listed in your person list and can also be found on the website mijnoverheid.nl. Registration is only done at the request of the parent(s), it is not mandatory. Each parent must submit a request for themselves.
